The Relic: First Guardian is a soulslike — so players expect bonfires. The truth is close, but different in one critical way: resting here does not reset the world. This guide covers everything confirmed about the game's checkpoints (the glowing Tibelle's Blessing stones), the camps where Elisa unlocks your relic slots, and the strategy that falls out of how resting actually works.
The Two Landmark Types
| Landmark | What It Is | Confirmed Functions |
|---|
| Tibelle's Blessing | Glowing stone checkpoints | Rest point; relics are swappable at rest points; resting does not respawn enemies |
| Camps | Scattered rest areas | Elisa is here; explosive barrels are set for a reason; Shards of Awakening are spent here |
Tibelle's Blessing: The Checkpoint Stone
The glowing Tibelle's Blessing stones are your rest points — the closest thing the game has to Souls bonfires.
What Is Confirmed
| Fact | Detail |
|---|
| Resting does not respawn enemies | Confirmed. A cleared area stays cleared |
| Relics are swappable at rest points | You can rebuild your loadout between fights |
| What's unconfirmed | Exact heal/restore effects at the stone, respawn-on-death behavior, and fast travel between stones |
The big difference from Souls: in Dark Souls, resting resets the world — the price of a full heal is a full respawn. In The Relic: First Guardian, a cleared path
stays cleared. That single rule changes the whole game's rhythm: you can grind forward safely, and backtracking is never punishment.
The Checkpoint Strategy That Follows
- Clear deliberately — because enemies do not respawn, every kill is a permanent advantage. There is no "farm the same mobs" loop; progress is progress.
- Swap relics at every stone — rest points are free re-specs. Check the next area's threat (curses, poison, parry-gate bosses) and swap resistance relics in before you push.
- Never skip a stone you find — an unactivated checkpoint is a longer death-walk.
Camps: Elisa and the Relic Slots
Camps are the second landmark type — and the home of the game's most important NPC, Elisa (the woman who awakens you at the start).
What Camps Do (Confirmed)
| Function | Detail |
|---|
| Relic slot unlocks | Bring Shards of Awakening (found through exploration) to Elisa at any camp — each shard unlocks a new relic slot |
| Potion capacity | Shards of Esser (found on temple altars, e.g. in the Faded Mist Forest) raise your potion count above the starting 3 |
| Combat tools | Camps are set with explosive barrels — confirmed terrain tools for clearing packs |
The slot economy: more relic slots = more passive fragments equipped = more build depth. Every Shard of Awakening should reach Elisa the moment you find it — the slot is permanent, and its value compounds with every relic you collect.
Camp Strategy
- Route camps into your clears — every camp is a safe hub; clear from camp to camp rather than deep into unknown territory.
- Explosive barrel discipline — barrels delete packs but also delete you: pull the pack, roll past, detonate from range.
- No-rest runs — for challenge runs, skipping camps and checkpoints entirely is a viable (and brutal) strategy; see the Difficulty Guide for the details.
Checkpoint vs. Bonfire: The Comparison Table
| System | Dark Souls Bonfire | Tibelle's Blessing Stone |
|---|
| Respawns enemies on rest | Yes | No — cleared stays cleared |
| Full heal on rest | Yes | Unconfirmed at launch |
| Loadout changes at rest | Yes | Yes (relics) |
| Permanent upgrades at rest | Level-ups / estus | Elisa's slot unlocks are at camps, not stones |
Resting Rules for Beginners
| Rule | Why |
|---|
| Clear, then rest | Since resting never costs you the cleared world, rest freely — but only after the clear |
| Swap before boss gates | Use the last stone before a boss arena to match relic loadout to the fight |
| Hoard Shards of Esser until needed | Potions are finite per rest; save the capacity for boss runs |
| Check the enemy type first | The Enemy Types Guide tells you what the next area throws — swap relics to match |
